Kern River 8-21-09
Submitted by Dave on Fri, 08/21/2009 - 21:36The roadside section of the upper Kern has been good for fly anglers fishing small dries early and late in the day during hatches and egg-laying flights. Best action is in the upper couple of miles of the roadside stretch or on above the Johnsondale Bridge in the wild trout section. Water temps are cooler in this stretch, where the flows are under 300 cfs and dropping. The lower river flows are also down and falling, at 700 cfs early this week. Richbar, Hobo areas best for smallmouth bass anglers fishing spinners, crawlers, and plastics. Also a few cats on the lower river on clams.

I was a little worried that the crappie were all gone, I knew that I had caught a bunch, but I didn't think I had single handedly wiped them out. Well it turned out that my instincts were good. There are plenty of crappie left, and I found them out in the south fork near Paradise Cove and Kissack Bay. I am usually on a boat or at least a float tube, so I am not sure how
8-16-09 AQUEDUCT NEAR TAFT Fish Report
Submitted by Dave on Sun, 08/16/2009 - 15:33AQUEDUCT NEAR TAFT : Stripers remain good with the best bite on the sand worms, blood worms, Gitzits, and shad-like cranks. Most of the fish are in the two to three-pound range, which means many are under the 18-inch minimum size. Lots of moss in water now, so anglers doing the walk-drifting method are the most successful.
