Fish Report 8/23/2010
Submitted by Dave on Mon, 08/23/2010 - 15:05LAKE ISABELLA: The largemouth bass bite has slowed but a few fish are still showing on Senkos, brush hogs, and deep-diving cranks. Dropping water level has the fish suspended and tough. The catfish action also remains fair to good on frozen shad, clams, and Sonny’s dip bait with lots of fish from two pounds and up. The crappie action finally petered out with few reported. Trout action is fair at the auxiliary dam on Power Bait and nightcrawlers. Information: Bob’s Bait 661-833-8657.

Caught this 4lb bass on 8/5/2010 2PM from my small motorized inflatable pontoon boat while fishing off steep rocks at Lake Isabella’s French Gulf Area. I was using my usual watermelon stick worm with scented oil added which I always had the best luck on in this lake. It put up one good fight. I released it at the docks after taking this photo.

Lake Isabella Trout
Submitted by justbkuzz on Fri, 07/09/2010 - 12:51Not too bad, but not big enough in my book to add to the "Big Fish" section. Maybe next time!
First cast in for the day. Power bait on a treble hook and live night-crawler pumped up with a little air in the tail for added appeal. Hit came before I could get my second pole wet. The trout can't seem to resist this combination.

Submitted by Dave on Fri, 06/25/2010 - 06:55LAKE ISABELLA: The crappie action still a very good bite on small minnows in Brown’s and Jauchin’s coves in the South Fork arm. The largemouth bass bite has been pretty good showing on Senkos and deep-diving cranks. The catfish action also remains very good in Stein and Robinson coves on frozen shad and clams with lots of fish from two pounds and up. Trout action is still good at the auxiliary dam on Power Bait and nightcrawlers. Bluegill finally starting to improve. Information: Bob’s Bait 661-833-8657.
KERN RIVER: Flows have dropped in the upper river, but the fishing is still tough. Stocks the last couple of weeks are keeping the bite petty good on salmon eggs and crawlers. The lower river is still pretty high and tough to fish, but anglers are getting trout after last week’s plants. Information: Kern River Fly Shop 760-376-2040 (or www.kernriverflyfishing.com) or James Store 760-376-2424.
